Hair Care Tips – Issue. 4

  1. PROTECTIVE STYLING TIPS:

  • Keep your hair and scalp clean and well moisturized: spray your scalp with water and apply hair oil or balm.

  • Avoid styles that pull your hair back too tightly

  • Take breaks between styles to let your hair (and scalp) breathe: leave your natural hair on.

  • Don’t leave your protective style in for too long (3-4 weeks max).

  • Avoid wearing the same protective styles repeatedly to prevent hair damage

  • Oil your scalp daily with hair oil or hair balm

  • One of the best ways to keep your hair smooth is by oiling them daily, or at least regularly. Oiling your hair increases the blood circulation in the scalp and thus, repairing of damaged hair. This will make your hair look smoother and shinier.

  • Hair pomade also moisturizes your scalp, promotes hair growth and thickness, and helps fight dandruff. … It adds texture, thickness, and hold and has been used for centuries for its positive effects on skin and hair.

2. 5 Simple styles for Natural or Transitioning Hair.

  • Flat twist: this happens to be one of my favorites (you can never go wrong with the well defined curls. The tighter the twist, the more defined curl you will get.

  • Finger coils: this is my second favorite. I realized as my hair grew longer, it became more difficult in getting this done quickly in a seating. I would recommend this for short natural hair

  • Wash & Go: Wash hair with our Moisturizing Dry Hair Shampoo for two minutes and rinse, apply our Rinse-off Conditioner for about 2-3 minutes and rinse, towel dry your hair, and simply style with our Leave-In Conditioner.

  • Bantu knots: this is a hairstyle where the hair is sectioned off, twisted, and wrapped in a such a way that the hair stacks upon itself to form a spiraled knot. Smaller sections works best for shorter hair.

  • Protective style: this is a hairstyle that tucks the hair away and keeps it free from manipulation (e.g. twists, dreadlocks, box braids, cornrows etc.).

3. Troubleshooting Damaged Hair:

It may take some time before you see significant improvements, but try these tips on how to repair damaged hair and practice a bit of patience while your hair works itself through the repairing stage.

  • Avoid applying heat to your hair or heat styling. You can also lower the temperature on your tools to reduce heat damage.

  • Cut any damaged hair from the rest to prevent any further damage. The easier you do this, the better chance you give to your hair to grow back quickly. Remove all the excess heat damage.

  • Avoid using chemicals in your hair: Certain chemical treatments involve coating each hair strand with a strong chemical, then warming it up to activate the formula. This can affect the way these keratin chains are held together – and by doing so, it changes the structure of your hair.

  • Use the correct shampoo. Try our Moisturizing Dry Hair Shampoo or our Clarifying Repair shampoo on our shampoo section. Clarifying shampoo is not designed for everyday use. To gain the most benefits, you’ll want to use it in between your regular shampoo days.

  • Always use a Leave-In Conditioner: Leave-in products provide extra moisture to the hair, protect it from damage, and help detangle the strands. Nearly every hair type — curly or straight, natural or color-treated — can benefit from the use of leave-in conditioners, but you may find them particularly useful if you have dry, damaged, or frizzy hair.

  • Deep conditioner your hair at least one a month. Deep hair conditioning can help prevent damage to the hair through moisture, texture and penetration of the hair shaft. It helps prevent breakages and split ends, and even for hair that isn’t specifically damaged in the first place, it will help maintain overall health.

  • Use hair oil or hair balm for scalp treatment and hair growth.
